The Philadelphia Flyers announced some tough news for the team today, revealing that defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen underwent surgery last month and will not be ready for the start of the 2025-26 season. They say he'll be out "about six months" and is expected to make a full recovery.The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, the renowned orthopedic surgeon who has treated elite athletes including Tom Brady, Shohei Ohtani and Kobe Bryant. The six-month timeline, and the fact that he will miss all of training camp, means that Ristolainen will certainly miss at least the first month of the season, as he'll need time to ramp himself up on his own after his teammates have already kicked off the campaign. This is the second straight year that Ristolaninen has had a right triceps rupture, and it cost him the last two months of the 2023-24 season. He recovered nicely, however, in time to put up a significant bounce-back season this past year. The Flyers hope the 30-year-old can come back just as strong this time around.
