Longtime NHL Defenseman Jordie Benn Retires

While speaking with CHEK News' Paul Haysom, longtime NHL defender Jordie Benn officially announced his retirement from professional hockey. Benn, 37, spent 12 seasons in the NHL, where he had stints with the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, Minnesota Wild, and Toronto Maple Leafs. In 607 career games in the NHL, Benn had 26 goals to go along with 111 assists, 137 points, 751 hits, and 977 blocks.After not earning a contract for the 2023-24 from a professional tryout (PTO) agreement with the Stars, Benn spent this past season with Brynas IF in Sweden. In 39 games for the club, he had three goals, 19 assists, 22 points, and a plus-24 rating. It was certainly a solid way for the veteran defender to finish off his long career.Benn's journey to the NHL was certainly not an easy one, as the left-shot defenseman went undrafted. However, after developing his game in the BCHL, ECHL, and AHL, Benn finally made the jump to the NHL during the 2011-12 season.
